For the first time for in program history, the Lindenwood cycling team sent two riders to the mountain bike nationals. The Lions finished 19th in the team omnium ranks with just two riders being scored.
Zak Haffner and Sarah Lukas travelled to Truckee, California to compete in two events each, cross country and short track. The first event was a challenging and technical cross country course approximately 25 miles in length. Haffner raced to finish 51st in a challenging men’s field, and Lukas, having raced at nationals before, finished 23rd.
The second race was a 30 minute-long challenging short track race. Haffner finished 39th in his best result of the weekend. Lukas had an impressive short track race, completing her best finish at mountain bike nationals yet. After battling for a podium spot with Colorado University rider Deidre York, Lukas fell back to finish in 10th.
Fort Lewis College won the omnium competition dominating the weekend’s races.
Haffner and Lukas qualified for nationals with impressive showings at regionals which were hosted by the University of Missouri.
