Ankle Update

There has already been 2 weekends of road racing for the MWCCC scene, and I have been able to check out both. Not necessarily race though.
The team really has been steeping up and already giving a name for themselves against the teams that didn't think we had a road program.

Murray State was our first race. Wasn't able to do too much, as I was still basically on crutches and not walking. But luckily, Weston Pope brought out his BMX bike which allowed for me to scooter around comfortably.

I then slowly got off of the crutches and....annnnd....found myself on my first bike ride! I went to visit the doctor, and gave me permission to try short rides, roughly 5 miles.

I was really feeling good. There was a stiff, unbalanced-ness to my left side, along with a nasty pressure of where the surgery was done. It was just nice to get back out, even though any time I needed to stop, I couldn't guarantee I could unclip my left leg.

Then, a day after my first ride was another collegiate race in Indiana at Depauw University. The road race was Saturday, so I brought my bike and did a little spinning around on the gorgeous 70 degree sunny, yet windy day. I road the course backwards about two times. After that, there was a TTT at about 5pm. It was only 5 miles long, so I decided to join in just so we had enough to finish the race, enough to get some points for the team, regardless that we came in last.
So that Saturday was very rough on my ankle, leaving me to watch with a very sore leg. It also left me back at school with a sore, bleeding wound. I have been off the bike since that weekend since I have pushed the healing back. The ankle itself is doing great, but the incision is doing rough.

I go to the athletic trainer everyday where they work on my leg. The incision is having some difficulty healing, and may need some more stitched. We will just look at it this next week, and see if stitches are necessary. The oozing bloody mess has been no fun.

I get E-Stem therapy done pretty much everyday I go in. Which sometimes feels great, and sometimes feels pretty nasty. E-Stem, in a short way, is a form of therapy that basically uses electrical stimulation of the muscles to work the muscles in the ankle/leg. Once my incision is a little more cleared up, I will use ultrasound therapy on the actual tendon to help heal that.

So, Spring Break week is now. Everyone has left to go riding in warmer climates and enjoy some on the bike time. I am a little held back so I am staying pretty much in Kentucky to chill, catch up on school work, and maybe, just maybe get back on the bike.
I am walking comfortably, I walk without the boot cast, and have been working my range of motion to the point I have very little limp.
